Wings will always be a year-round food, but there’s something about the start of football season that pairs so well with a good chicken wing. As summer comes to a close and fall opens its doors, there will be plenty of opportunities to forego the grill and move back to the oven. Here’s a perfect sweet and spicy option for your roasted wings sure to take you all the way to Thanksgiving.

This recipe is all about the glaze! I promise this sweet and spicy glaze will certainly not disappoint. It’s so good that I am considering canning and selling it.

For the Wings

  • 3 1/2 lbs chicken wings
  • 1 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne

For the Glaze

  • 4 tbsp sweet cream butter (unsalted)
  • 1-2 cloves garlic
  • A handful of fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp hot sauce
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of salt

Preheat the oven to 400

For the Wings
Clean the wings and season with all of your seasonings. Feel free to add or take away as you please. The recipe is more about the glaze on the outside but you also want to get some good flavor to the meat also. Set the wings to the side or sit in the fridge for 1-2 hours.

For the Glaze

  • Heat the butter in a saucepan until melted. Careful not to burn the butter.
  • Add in the garlic and saute
  • Stir in the cilantro
  • Add the honey and the lemon to the pot and bring to a slight boil
  • Add in the pinch of salt. This will bring out the robust flavors in the sauce.

Back to the Wings

  • Pour in the hot sauce and mix well
  • Coat the wings in the sauce and place them on a roasting rack (don’t use all your sauce)
  • Roast for 40-45 minutes or until skin is cripsy golden brown
  • Add more sauce to the wings and roast for another 10 minutes or until carmelized
  • Sprinkle more cilantro on top and serve with a little sauce for dipping on the side
